Day 1 - Agape Love

We often use the word love in different ways. Like, we say, “I love hiking” and “I love you.” But we don’t love them the same way (hopefully). We most commonly think about love in a romantic way. But what if true love meant more than romance? What if there was a deeper, truer, more full expression of love that could only be found in God and received through Jesus Christ?

English is kind of confusing about that. But the Greek language used in the Bible is not. The Greek words for love mean different things for Greek-speaking readers, even though they all look like the same English word in most translations.

One of those words is “agape” (pronounced ah-gah-pay.) Agape love is the best kind of love, because it’s the kind of love that God has for us and that he wants us to have for each other. It’s not a love that depends on how we feel or what we get out of it.

It’s a love that chooses, no matter what.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father,

I come to You with an open heart, eager to learn and embody the agape love You have shown me. Teach me to love beyond my feelings and what I can gain, choosing love in every situation. Guide me to love You with all my being and to extend that love selflessly to my neighbors, mirroring Your love through my actions and decisions. Empower me to live out the sacrificial love of Christ, shining Your divine love into the world around me.

In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Day 2 - Love is a Choice

Today, we dive into the heart of 1 Corinthians 13, where the Apostle Paul describes this divine love that surpasses all others.

Agape love is selfless, sacrificial, and unconditional. It is a love that chooses to act for the benefit of others, regardless of what it receives in return. This love is patient and kind; it does not envy or boast; it is not proud or rude. It does not dishonor others, is not self-seeking, is not easily angered, and keeps no record of wrongs. Agape love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

As we reflect on these characteristics, we recognize that agape love is the purest form of love—a choice that we make daily. It is the love that God has for us and the love He calls us to share with others. It is not based on attraction or obligation but on a deliberate decision to love as Christ loves us.

Lord,

Grant me the strength to choose agape love today. Help me to love as You love, selflessly and unconditionally. As I reflect on this highest form of love, may I be transformed from the inside out, becoming vessel of Your perfect love to those around me. May my life reflect the beauty of Your perfect love. Amen.

Day 3 - Love is Sacrificial

Let’s break it down to the basics. Agape love is the real deal—it’s about putting those warm, fuzzy feelings into action. It’s like a guiding light that cuts through all the “me, me, me” noise and points us toward real bonds and togetherness.

Picture love as this river that just keeps rolling along, spreading good vibes and life wherever it goes. That’s what agape love is—it’s big-hearted, it’s about giving without expecting anything back, and it’s about seeing people for who they really are, deep down, pushing us to be kind, share the love, and make real connections.

This kind of love isn’t just hanging out on the sidelines; it’s getting down and dirty with life. It’s lending a hand when things get tough, giving a comforting squeeze when you’re feeling low, or sharing a laugh when times are good. Going for agape means you’re in it for the long haul, ready to put others first and do what it takes to lift them up.

Lord,

I come before You with a humble heart, seeking the strength to love as You have loved me. I want more than anything to show agape love — selfless, sacrificial, and unconditional. Fill my heart with Your divine love so that I may give without hesitation, love without limits, and serve without seeking reward. I pray for the courage to love others boldly, to extend grace freely, and to live a life that reflects Your sacrificial love. In the name of Jesus, who is the perfect example of agape love, I pray. Amen.

Day 4 - Love for God

Are you getting the full picture yet? Agape love is best kind of love there is. It’s all about giving without expecting anything back, and loving without any conditions. Loving God with this kind of love means we’re all in with His plan, even if we don’t get it all the time. It’s about letting go of what we want and trusting that He’s got the roadmap to something even better.

So, when we go all out with agape love for God, it’s like we’re saying, “I trust you completely, God. You know what’s up. You’ve got my back, and your love never quits.” We’re not just going through the motions because we have to; we’re doing it because we’re truly thankful for everything He’s done for us. We’re giving Him our all—our hearts, our thoughts, our energy—because, let’s face it, He deserves all the cheers we can give.

It’s not about what God can give us. It’s about who He is—the One who made us, keeps us going, and saved us. He’s shown us the real deal when it comes to love, and that’s why we love Him right back.

Dear God,
I come before You with a heart full of love and adoration. Teach me to love You with agape love, a love that is pure, selfless, and unwavering. Help me to surrender my desires and to align my heart with Your divine will. I trust in Your perfect plan for my life, and I commit to serve and worship You with all that I am. I love You not for the ways you bless me, but for Your unchanging nature and the sacrifice You made for me. May my love for You be evident in my actions, my thoughts, and my words. Guide me in Your ways, and let my life be a reflection of Your love. Amen.

Day 5  - Love is Generous

When we talk about agape love, we’re talking about a kind of love that’s all about giving generously. It’s not just about donating cash or stuff; it’s way bigger than that. Agape love is about putting others first, caring for their best interests, and doing good without looking for a pat on the back.

This love is a choice, a decision we make to be loyal, to stick it out, and to give of ourselves even when it’s tough. It’s love that doesn’t keep score or wait for a thank you. It’s love that’s all in, all the time, for someone else’s sake.

Dear Jesus,

Help me to love with a big heart, to give without keeping tabs. Let me be all about others, loving like You do, without waiting for a return. Help me to be generous in all that I do - with my time, talent, and treasures, so that you can receive all the glory. Amen.
