8th Street Academy
Wait, so Rise is starting a school? Well, not exactly, but kinda. Let me explain:
Dave and Sherry Grey, who helped found Rise in 2014, just started a separate non-profit called Rise Up Education with the purpose of investing in the next generation through education.
Within days of feeling this call, God opened the door for Dave and Sherry to purchase the former Phonics Phactory school building in Gresham. Phonics Phactory was built in 2004 with a literal bible placed in it's foundation.
A team of teachers and administrators who share a similar vision and passion for investing in the lives of students began to form. Within a matter of weeks it became clear that we could open for the 2021-2022 school year as a soft launch with classes from preschool through second grade (and possibly even third).
The school being located on NE 8th Street and Kane, has been named 8th Street Academy.
“I am looking forward to our first year at 8th Street Academy because I can already feel it’s a special place for learning and fostering meaningful relationships with Jesus and each other. I can’t wait to see what God has planned for our school, our staff, our students, our families and our community.” — Tori Fultz, 2nd Grade Teacher
So while this is a completely separate organization than Rise, 8th Street carries the mission, values, and culture of our church. This is one more avenue to see the next generation raised up and our city saturated with the Gospel of Jesus.
A team of Rise people along with various staff that were previously a part of Phonics Phactory have formed a launch team to help set vision, directions, values, and ultimately execution of the school. Stay up to date on our website and instagram.
