THIS IS WAR | Part 01
Strategic Prayers for Spiritual Warfare
There are three forces in this life that have made it their goal to hurt your soul. These forces are:
1. The Flesh Your own fallen, human nature (Galatian 5:17).
2. The World The way the world you live in thinks, or the „pattern“ of this world (Romans 12:2)
3. The Enemy Satan and the dark spirits that live in spiritual realms (Ephesians 6:12).
THIS IS WAR
Peter urges you in his writings, "to abstain from the passions of your flesh, which wage war against your soul.“ (1 Peter 2:11)
There is a war going on. And it starts every morning when you open your eyes (sometimes even in your dreams). It’s real!
For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places.
So, what exactly are these enemies of our soul trying to do?
THE ENEMY’S GOAL
It depends on where you stand.
Before you come to faith in Jesus, the goal of these forces is pretty simple: Keeping you from seeing the truth. (2 Cor. 4:4)
But once you come to faith, the enemy becomes more aggressive than that.
Now the goal changes and instead of simply blinding your eyes toward the truth, his aim is to keep the truth about Jesus to become mature in you and to spread to others. And any strategy will do.
Strategy 01: Despair
This is where you are simply are kept immature through constant temptation toward sin; trapping you in shame and small faith. The enemy’s approach here is to ensnare you in sin and then bludgeon you over and over with shame for sinning.
Strategy 02: Pride
On the other hand, the enemy would love to pump you up with pride. This is where you’re granted success and then he trips you up with pride. You not only become a spectacle of shame but can cause destruction in the church. The enemy is even satisfied with using any kind of success event “spiritual” success.
As long as your faith does not become effective and actually produce other mature followers of Jesus, the forces achieve their goal. The Enemy's ultimate aim is to keep you from maturing and multiplying more disciples of Jesus.
"The Enemy's ultimate aim is to keep you from maturing and multiplying more disciples of Jesus."
THERE’S GOOD NEWS
God is in you. And he is infinitely more powerful than these forces.
In my following articles, I want to point out prayers that you can pray to hold against the forces that want to hurt your soul and the souls of those around you.
Let’s start with one in a little book in the Bible that not many pay attention to:
"...and I pray that the sharing of your faith may become effective for the full knowledge of every good thing that is in us for the sake of Christ."
Pray for your faith and that of others to actually become effective, so that everyone around you would come to a FULL knowledge of EVERY good thing that Jesus has accomplished for us and that he placed IN us.
That means, pray that your faith would produce more faith and that your knowledge of Jesus would produce more knowledge of Jesus.
Next time, I want to look at a prayer in the book of Colossians with you. See you next Tuesday!
